A leopard spotted near a bungalow in Nashik on Sunday was trapped by forest department officials after an eight-hour effort.The leopard was caught from a shed covering the terrace of an apartment in Savarkar Nagar near Gangapur Road police station, an official said. A forest department staff was injured in the face in the process.The animal was first spotted around 7.30 a.m. by some people coming for household chores in the bungalows, the official said. It was captured on a CCTV camera at a bungalow here, crossing Colony Road in the crowded locality. Residents alerted the Gangapur police station officials who in turn called in the forest department staff.Before being trapped in a nylon net, the leopard had moved through Architect Colony and Maitra Manohar Colony, an official said.After being sedated, it was moved out of the area in a forest department van. Officials said it would be released in the wild after a medical check-up.The western part of Nashik has dense forests, home to several wild animals, a forest official said.
