Pensioner jailed for smuggling ganja into prison

first_imgSixty-three-year-old Ishwar Persaud, a pensioner of Leopold Street, Georgetown, was on Monday found guilty of smuggling marijuana into the Camp Street penitentiary during last year, and has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and fined $30,000 by Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty. His trial had lasted for 12 months.The charge Persaud had faced alleged that on August, 31, 2017 he had in his possession 20 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.According to facts presented by Police Prosecutor Ceon Blackman, the craftsman had gone to the Camp Street Prison to take food and clothing for an inmate, but a search conducted on the items brought had unearthed narcotics that had been concealed in the soles of a shoe.last_img
