Looking to provide some blocking help is teammate Scott Parr (24).ELLSWORTH — The Ells-worth-Sumner Eagle football team totaled 376 yards on offense in its 70-27 loss to the Orono Red Riots on Friday.Last year, the Eagles achieved their best game of the season against Orono with 225 offensive yards in a 60-28 loss.While the difference in game scores has increased, Eagle coaches are focusing on the positive numbers that reflect the team’s progress on offense.“The kids are really optimistic,” said Ellsworth-Sumner coach Duane Crawford “While we continue to struggle, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”This is placeholder textThis is placeholder textOn Friday, Eagle Deonta Linscott rushed for 223 yards with nine carries and three touchdowns, nearly matching the entire team’s total points and yardage from the 2012 game.“We’re actually developing a running game,” Crawford said. “That’s something that a year ago we didn’t have.”The Eagles’ passing game also has improved. Tyler Getchell had three catches for 112 yards and one touchdown on Friday, and quarterback Stephen Cowles completed six of his nine passes for 128 yards.On defense, Michael York totaled six tackles and four assists, and Linscott finished with four tackles and two assists.The Eagles dropped to 0-4 for the season.
