first_imgJob SummaryReceiving work direction from the Interim Medical Director(Physician), and reporting to the Associate Vice President ofHealth, Wellness, and Student Services, the Psychiatrist worksindependently in performing assigned student services andconsultations with the Student Health Center (SHC) medical staffand Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) counseling staff.Consultation could involve advice regarding psychiatric diagnostictreatment and psychotherapeutic activities and are in accordancewith the overall operation of the SHC and within the scope of theprogram established by the Board of Trustees. The incumbent mayprovide highly specialized advice regarding planning, coordinating,and evaluating ongoing psychiatric care of students. All staff areexpected to conform to CSU, State, and Federal regulations andlaws. Although unlikely, there may be an occasion of brief eveningor weekend work. Working collegially and collaboratively to supportstudent success is the bottom line purpose of this and all SHCpositions. The Psychiatrist is expected to obtain a detailed intakeassessment, as well as to order any appropriate laboratory tests tosupport diagnostic evaluations. The Psychiatrist may whenappropriate, refer students, to other practitioners with the SJSUHealth/Wellness Center.
