Val Ischi, of Soldotna, noticed the calf on her property on June 6, and didn’t think to check on the moose until she noticed it in the same spot the next day. Ischi and two others went down in the hole while being cautious. The moose’s mother was nearby and they made sure to keep an eye on her while assisting the calf. Ischi discovered the moose calf was stuck in a hole and she contacted the Department of Fish and Game who were unable to send any personal out at that time to help the calf. It only took the group five minutes and they were able to help the calf out of the hole and reunite it with its mother.
