Although the star tailback never indicated whether he’ll play in the team’s bowl game, head coach Mike Norvell provided a major update. In an effort to avoid any injury and prepare for the NFL Draft, Henderson will not suit up for Memphis in the Birmingham Bowl against Wake Forest. The Associated Press broke the news about him sitting out for the bowl game, which will now leave the Tigers without their best player on the roster.Memphis All-America RB Darrell Henderson won’t play in bowl game against Wake Forest. https://t.co/73HmilSBnZ pic.twitter.com/gaLyTsrXZj— AP Top 25 (@AP_Top25) December 15, 2018Henderson had an amazing season for the Tigers, finishing with 1,909 rushing yards and 25 total touchdowns. After posing back-to-back seasons with over 1,000 rushing yards, the All-American tailback should find himself as an early round selection in the upcoming draft.Without its best offensive weapon on the field for Memphis, expect Patrick Taylor Jr. and Tony Pollard to assume large roles in the backfield. This will also present an opportunity for Brady White to carry this offense against Wake Forest.Next up for Henderson should be the NFL Combine, which will take place toward the end of February.last_img
