Tame Impala To Headline Treasure Island Music Festival

first_imgTame Impala will headline Treasure Island Music Festival when the gathering returns on October 13th and 14th. This year’s event will herald the festival’s move to a new home at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park in Oakland, California, following a one-year hiatus.Other artists on the bill for Treasure Island include A$AP Rocky, Silk City (Diplo + Mark Ronson), Lord Huron, Santigold, Courtney Barnett, Jungle, Hiatus Kaiyote, and the Tame Impala-affiliated psych-rock outfit Pond. Treasure Island announced a hiatus last year after a decade at its namesake location, San Francisco’s Treasure Island. Organized by Noise Pop Industries and Another Planet, the festival has historically showcased a variety of acts on two adjacent stages. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the 2018 edition of Treasure Island will keep things more or less the same, with interactive art installations, food trucks, and a 60′ Ferris wheel.“It was never a question of whether or not the festival would come back,” Noise Pop Industries co-owner and festival co-founder Jordan Kurland told the publication. “It was taking a year off to make sure when we returned we did it right.”Tickets for the revived Treasure Island Music Festival will go on sale Friday, May 18th.last_img read more

Letters to the Editor for Monday,Feb. 25

first_imgCategories: Letters to the Editor, OpinionTrump latest to use fear tactics on publicPresidential control tactics: Create enemies using fear and hate, then pound away at them until the American public no longer remembers the difference between right and wrong. In my lifetime, two topics have been successful: communism and weapons of mass destruction. President Trump is working on others: fear of Muslim, the not-so-white-people on our southern border, and he’s getting started an another [fear]. Examples: The war in Vietnam and fear of communism. Four presidents terrified us from the 1950s until 1973. From early on, they knew it was unwinnable. It cost us 50,000 American soldiers, more than 1 million Vietnamese died, we wasted billions of dollars, and all with no personal accountability from the creators. Unbelievably, we did it again. This time the lie was WMDs. Using the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers as an excuse, the war-mongering mishmash of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and Pearle, who I think are guilty of war crimes against humanity, successfully created a fear of WMDs that never existed to initiate our ongoing 17-year-old war in the Middle East. They had no interest in just capturing the crazed Osama bin Laden, thereby eliminating the need for war. That choice would have saved millions of people from misery, along with the more than $3 trillion that we’ve already spent on another unwinnable war. So, what’s Trump’s next fear-mongering tactic you ask? It’s dreaded socialism as he tries to scare us out of Medicare for all. I wonder, just how gullible are we? Livia CarrollSchenectady What is Cuomo’s next act of horror?I think it was one of the darkest moments in New York state history when a room full of moronic buffoons cheered wildly when their hero, “Criminal Cuomo,” signed into law the Reproductive Health Act, or what some of its supporters would call “isn’t infanticide great act.”What’s next for our dear governor, an amendment where a mother can take her baby home for 30 days and decide “it just doesn’t go with the decor,” return the baby to the hospital where it would be made “comfortable” of course, while the mother and perhaps a hospital janitor confer on whether to terminate the baby or not? I can only hope that Cuomo and the band of supporters who cheered him that day can join Kermit Gosnell, the Baby Butcher of Philadelphia, in hell.Ray WeidmanLathamMore from The Daily Gazette:EDITORIAL: Find a way to get family members into nursing homesEDITORIAL: Beware of voter intimidationFoss: Should main downtown branch of the Schenectady County Public Library reopen?Cuomo calls for clarity on administering vaccineEDITORIAL: Urgent: Today is the last day to complete the census Radical liberals turn country upside downIs America going crazy? The radical liberal left has an agenda to turn this country upside down. Law and order is being scoffed at. Our right to create humanity and not destroy it is under attack by abortionists. Our right to the freedom of religion of our choice is being ridiculed as irrelevant. The right to bear arms per our Constitution is being undermined by our court system. It’s our choice to teach our children moral values and rear them how we please, not the twisted logic of our education system.Socialism is not the answer. It has destroyed many countries. Please don’t let them take the cows from our farmers because they pollute the air too much.George LymanHalfmooncenter_img Dems destroying a once-viable partySpeaking as a former Democrat, I can only say that the present Democratic Party is gradually destroying what was once a viable, functional party, both state and federal. Take a look at the most recent legislative positions. Two states as an example, New York and California, both under Democratic control. George PrattAltamontlast_img read more
